Google Has it Out for Stale Blogs

June 7th, 2007

It certainly appears that Google has put something into their latest tweak that drops “stale” blogs from their SERPs. By stale I mean blogs that do not have regular or recent posts. I have seen a number of blogs, including my personal blog, go through some interesting yips over the past few weeks. One thing that has seemed to straighten them out is to post to them.  One site in particular did not have a homepage cached for a week or two. After writing a new post, it was back for the attack after two days. Green Hat SEO is experiencing a gray bar for PR right now. I will be curious to see how this post affects that.

Hot Chicks + Bikinis = ?

September 25th, 2006

Keeping it real can get old. So, I like to spend a few minutes checking out hot chicks to break up my day. Call me crazy. I know one or two people who like to do this as well. But, more importantly for the green hats or the friends of green hats is where to buy your hot chick a hot bikini? A good friend of mine has you covered, so be sure to check out her Malibu bikini shop if you are ever cruising up PCH and feel the need to get out on to the sand. She can hook you up.

SEO Scalability

May 1st, 2006

So, as I see it, there are two camps in the Green Hat SEO world. Those that go for the content and those that go for scalability. Really good content takes time to write, craft SEO details, and publish.  Then there is finding something that works a little and scaling the crap out of it. I used to be in the content camp for a while and then I met someone who changed how I looked at things. It was not that I did not think about scale in the past, just that I never seemed to get around to it. Today, however, scalability can be a problem if you don’t have the systems in place to effectively roll out your project. We recently put a set of sites in place that immediately started to show returns. A month and a half later, they have more than paid for themselves and then some and now it is time to do it again. I am a firm believer that once you find something that works, you have to attack. Otherwise you loose your competitive advantage. I have seen it time and time again and I am still guilty of making this mistake myself. There is a reason why you hear so many people say, “Strike while the iron is hot.” Those are some of the most profound words I have ever heard.

Shout Out to v7ndotcom-elursrebmem.macosx.org

April 7th, 2006

Just wanted to give a little shout out to who is likely to be the winning team for the latest SEO contest…the http://v7ndotcom-elursrebmem.macosx.org team. I have faith that they will make us all proud and show all of the playa haters out there that they know what is up.

But, to be honest, I really don’t care who wins. But, I like to support the homeys.

Three Column WordPress Theme

March 30th, 2006

Ok, I figured I would start off by making this (green) nice 3 column theme that I build for Green Hat SEO available to the public. The theme is clean and mean and does a pretty nice job of handling standard sized ads (ala 468×60 and 160×600 (or whatever 160 wide)).  It is green, but you can change that easily. I will try to get around to including a few different colored backgrounds so that you can easily change the look of your site.  There is a README.txt file included that should have you up and running in a matter of minutes. Check out this three column theme on the themes page.

Green Hat SEO is Live

March 30th, 2006

Ok, well, I just wanted to delete the stock Wordpress post and page and get something up here. Hopefully it won’t take as long as it did for the SEO Rockstar guys to get something up on their site. Hopefully, we can get some people to come by and drop some SEO knowledge and Green Hat love on this place every once in a while.
